ABOUT

NATALIE PLEIS

1968

Artist - Painter

Although born in Ghent, she frequently finds herself journeying between France and Belgium. Initially in Lille, then in Paris where she pursued her studies in art history. She swiftly delved into the art of restoring furniture, particularly in marquetry. Her focus then shifted to perfecting patinas, where time seemed to dance slowly. It was this path that ultimately led her to venture into crafting paintings on wood, skillfully incorporating materials such as stone, marble, wood, earth, and even water. Her creations remained consistently abstract, sprinkled with an essence of illusion—evoking the mesmerizing imagery of the sea, the break of dawn, the fiery dance. Her muse always rooted in the natural world, she exclusively employed natural or metallic pigments, deftly applying them with a palette, shunning the use of paintbrushes and always shrouding the secret of her painting techniques in mystery.
